China, 16th-17th century. The figure is cast seated in padmasana showing the abhayamudra with the raised right hand and a cup in the left, with a serene expression and downcast eyes.
Provenance: From a private collection in Vienna, Austria. Acquired in the local market between 1970 and 1990. Thence by descent.
Condition: Old wear and minor nicks here and there. Minuscule losses. Unsealed. Fine patina with remnants of cold painting and lacquer gilding. Overall fine condition.

Her finely detailed hair is upswept into a top knot beneath an openwork crown centered with seated figure of Amitabha Buddha. The robe is tied in a sash at the waist and open at the chest to reveal a tasseled jeweled necklace. The hems of the robe are intricately worked with beaded borders enclosing lotus blooms on scrolling foliage.
