18th Century French Regency Console, Mirror and Small Table

Console Table

The console tables during the Regency period were even rarer than those of Louis XV. They are made of fine natural oak or gilt wood. The most typical console table has four legs with double S-curves, with or without rails to connect the legs and support the rectangular frame and marble tops. Most of the friezes on the front of the table are arbalete shaped, and the friezes are decorated in the middle. Among them, the five-sided scallop shell pattern is a typical division of the Regency period. The curved table legs are mostly decorated with dragons, female heads or Mascaron heads.

In addition, there is a more rare console table, which is smaller than the four-leg design. This type of console table has two legs with a double "S" curve, and there is a connecting leg between the legs to support the table body and the rails of the marble top placed on the table body.

Mirror

Mirrors are generally gilded and decorated with curved friezes, usually engraved with dragons, scallop shells, mouse leaves, flowers or female heads. But the changes of these mirrors are limited to mirror feet and friezes. This decoration, not the design of the mirror, makes them clearly distinguishable from the style of Louis XIV.

Small Tables

There are usually two small and practical tables. The first is carved from natural wood with decorative elements in the style of the Regency. It has curved legs but no rails, and uses a curved design where the drawers are installed. The second is a very rare four-sided table with decorations on all sides. The difference between it and the bedside table is that the bedside table is only decorated on the front and sides.
