China, 1115-1368. The tapering vessel with a short waisted neck and galleried rim. Covered in milky, lavender-blue glaze, a prominent purple splash in the center, stopping above the foot to reveal the buff-colored body.
Provenance: Bluett & Sons, London, according to label on base. Sotheby’s London, ‘Important Chinese Art’, May 13th, 2015, lot 265, and May 11th, 2016, lot 228.
Condition: Good condition with only a small 3mm by 3mm shallow chip to the foot and intentional crackle throughout. There are also some minor glaze pits from firing and of course there is some old wear.
